Best Restaurants and Eateries Near UT Austin Campus
- Food & Drinks
- December 4, 2019
Austin may be known for its plethora of live music, but students and downtown workers are always hungry. Sometimes we feel oriental, brisket, or some good old-fashioned southern chicken. Whatever you’re in the mood for, the west campus and surrounding areas of the UT campus can offer some quick bites that you will be returning to for years to come. Without any further a due, here are the three best eats near the campus.
Look Noodles & More
My first visit was recent, but I can safely say that meal will be in my mind for some time to come. It was just authentic and very niche. The location is the Drag or in non-Austin language, along Guadalupe towards the downtown sector. Located on the border of downtown and west campus shows that it’s the prime place to grab a bite between your west university or downtown apartment.
The Chinese inspired restaurant serves some favorites such as ramen, fried rice combinations, and boasts all the vegan options’ choices. What I love about this place is that the service is very much like an old-school Chinese restaurant. You order at the counter, and the food will deliver out to you on the table. Inexpensive and brilliant.
Pluckers
Pluckers Wing Bar, located on west campus, six blocks from Texas Union, and you’re in for a treat. A stone’s throw away from the desirable off-campus apartments, Pluckers is a great place to catch up with friends, eat some great food, and catch up with the sports of the week. This chicken heaven offers so much at such a small price. The portion sizes are plentiful, but what isn’t in Texas; as they say — everything is bigger in Texas.
From chicken wings to chicken fingers more prominent than a banana and some mac n’ cheese to die for, you’ll be leaving twice the size than when you entered. Valued on my review websites as five stars, this institution is a favorite of Austinites and was the first main restaurant I went to, and I have had happy returns to this fantastic place.
Barley Bean

This quaint coffee shop is located in the depths of South Lamar. There are signs all around, but you want to head straight here; this is the holy grail. I visited there recently, and it was perfect for a quick lunch and a cup of tea. They have a range of warm paninis and salads as well as sandwiches.
Also, there is free Wi-Fi, and the staff was very attentive to my needs, so that I will be returning for another Carnivorous panini soon.
That’s it. I hope you enjoy munching and thoroughly live through these experiences, given their proximity to the west campus and downtown Austin apartment complexes.
